(New play offers patient perspective on Sickle Cell Anemia)

Augusta / Atlanta, GA. Sickle Cell Anemia Advocate and Survivor: La'Veda Wallace-Page, D.Mus will present excerpts of her new play: Crisis and Courage on July 19th at 7:00 pm at the Doubletree Hotel (Buckhead). The play is a part of a series of activities presented by Sickle Cell Warriors, Inc. for their 2nd Annual Sickle Cell Community Gathering and Educational Symposium, which takes place from July 17th – 20th in Atlanta.

Crisis and Courage chronicles La'Veda's struggle with Sickle Cell Anemia as a patient, a sister, and a mother and includes testimonies of the many men and women, she has interviewed, who struggle against the disease.

The play features performances by Raheema T. Johnson, Shauna Biles, Olaundra Grace, and Shaquilla Jackson and will be presented as a series of monologues and short scenes designed to offer relate-able yet personal perspectives for those who live with this disease. The show is inspirational, poetic, and courageous.

A full version of the show will premiere in Augusta, GA later this summer.

In addition to presenting her play, La'Veda will also be a part of 2-panel discussions during the 4-day series of activities. The agenda this year includes a professionals round-table, a parent-to-parent panel, a couples round-table, discussions on pharmaceutical trials and clinical research, bone marrow transplants, workplace, and secondary education rights and responsibilities, and much, much more.

Sickle Cell Warriors is undoubtedly a valuable resource for Sickle Cell Survivors and their families and has been my go-to for the past couple of years. I am excited to be a part of this series. This is our team's first collaboration with them and we are looking forward to supporting their efforts towards raising awareness across the country.
