Anthony R. Page Writes, Produces and Directs the Short Film: The Important Part(s) of Me
Anthony R. Page has written and will direct a short film titled The Important Part(s) of Me. The suspense-filled drama centers around a young woman's mental health condition and the impact it has on her marriage. Tackling a topic that is often taboo in the black community, the 30-minute film stars Beliria Sims as Ne'One Neale and Kenneth "KB" Brown as her husband Glenn.
In the film, Ne'One fights to preserve her marriage while going through an individual crisis that has created a state of defiant retrenchment. Despite all of her husband's efforts to connect, she seems to sink deeper into a mental and emotional trough. Over a very short period, her condition worsens, in what can best be described as a psychological civil war.
Beliria shared her connection to the character's experience. "I can definitely relate to Ne'One on many levels. Being a mom and a career woman I have been in that place where it feels as though life is pulling me in a million different directions. And with all of life going on, I still have to make the right moves, especially for the sake of my kids. And If I'm not careful, and don't find that healthy mental space, I can make choices that will further complicate an already difficult set of circumstances. Ne'One is in that space right now, she has to make some decisions, life-changing decisions, and there is a great deal of momentum in the story for her to make the wrong ones...I've been (am) there. Parts of her story really connect to the last three years of my life."
The film co-stars a variety of rising talents within Atlanta's fast-growing entertainment community including Kiara Iman, Tiffani-Mishelle Johnson, I'sis Eikner, Embry Ocha, Angel L. Henderson, Naomi Mack, and rapper/singer: Kore Stacks.
Always looking to break ground for new talent, the production also introduces six-year-old Dylan Bradley who will be playing a younger version of the lead character.
Rounding out the carefully curated collection of creatives on this project are the Runway Diva herself: Shay Davis, as well as actors Demetrio Fray, Tare Glasper, Jasmine Ahnie, and B Marie Star, Christiana Renee,, Raini Houston, E. David Jones and Nayazha Coleman.
Page also executive produces this project under the Blue Bistro Creative banner with his Limitless Productions, LLC producing partners Trey A. Lewis and Kenneth "KB" Brown. They have selected a great team of collaborators including Brian Wanjugu, a sought-after cinematographer in his final year at SCAD. The team realized that his sometimes kinetic, moody style is a great synergy with Anthony's directorial approach.
Adding to the depth of the production team, Kandi "Inkz" Robinson has signed on as the production's music supervisor. Through her company Audio Plugz, her credits include Disney, Hulu Plus, X Box, the Starz tv series Power, ABC's Grey's Anatomy, and ABC / CMT's hit series Nashville.
Page summed up his hopes for this production with this statement. "Being married requires quite a bit of adjustment, so when you add to that the unpredictable and often misunderstood nature of the mental illness, then you have a very distinct set of challenges. I wanted to look at this deeply to see what we mean when we say we love someone." Through the film, the production team hopes to explore the idea of unconditional love.
The Important Part(s) of Me will be filmed in Atlanta, GA, and goes into production in June.
