An Honor, An Ending, A New Beginning

As my wife and I sat with our 6-year-old son: Jah'Bre'el and watched President Obama's Farewell Address, we realized that Jah'Bre'el has only lived in an America under an Obama Presidency. That in itself is a powerful metaphor for our son's life. The example that President Obama set; the poise that he demonstrated and his grace under fire, were all important lessons that we wanted Jah' to learn.

In ways that we don't fully comprehend, our son connected to Obama's presidency, and would watch very carefully as he spoke over the years.

This is Jah'Bre'el's foundation and clearly affirms who he is as a Black citizen in this world. Because of the work my wife and I do throughout the community as well as what has been reflected at the highest levels of our government, Jah' has been validated in ways that we were not as children. We know this alone has planted seeds that will fruit beauty and breakthrough and add balance to our world. We will continue to nurture those seeds and guide him on a journey towards being fully manifested in this life.

As we continue to watch Obama's speech, we explained to our son that America would soon have a new president. He wasn't too excited about that, but we assured him that Barack Obama's presence in the world will continue to manifest in a multitude of ways, as will his own. Barack and Michelle are moving into the next chapter of their lives as are we. Our business ventures with our fledgling company: Blue Bistro Creative have grown to the point where we now have to relocate back to Atlanta.

This transition is bittersweet for us because our roots are very deep in our hometowns. My wife is in Augusta, GA and mine are just over the river in North Augusta, SC. This is our home, this is where our family is and this is where we learned many of our most important lessons. Our connection to this area will always be the most important part of our lives. But opportunity knocks, a multitude of doors have opened and many of the ventures we have been nurturing are coming into maturity, so the decision, although difficult, made sense. We embrace this new chapter as we reflect on our time in this city.

As for the awards, well...both my wife and I were nominated and we both elected to go through the process by good fortune, we were both acknowledged by Corporation for National and Community Service and the Office of the President of the United States. These awards are very meaningful to us and will always be a reminder of a very important time in our lives where both of our work in the community brought us together and opened the door for us to become a family.

As we move forward, we will continue to be a voice, a hand, a worker, a servant. We thank all of the many people who were a part of our experience here in Augusta; we remember those who help us which enabled us to be a help to others. The journey continues. As our American story becomes more complex, Augusta will always be significant in how our story unfolds.

Stay tuned!!! More to Come...
