Studio Blue Acting Conservatory - First Session Wrap-Up and Progress Report

Patrice Hrabowskie is on location at Backdrop Studios
for the recording of Ancestral Accents

"Studio Blue has transformed me as an actor. I never thought about doing multiple takes of a performance back-to-back or finding multiple ways to reinvent a character so I can be more directional. I was never able to cry when acting, I had a mental block. Studio Blue gave me the space to let my walls down and be vulnerable so ‘Patrice’ no longer got in the way of the character’s needs. I disappeared and someone else took over. It was a surreal and spiritual experience.” ~ Patrice Hrabowskie

My Personal Blog Update on the Studio Blue Acting Conservatory

This past January, we completed our first cycle of students in the STUDIO BLUE ACTING CONSERVATORY. It was a really productive period.

In class, we challenged our students to fine-tune their approach to consistently developing interesting, & memorable characters. Furthermore, we also help them to develop a more comprehensive approach to building a successful creative career.

This is me on set with model/spoken word
Tarika Holland. She had a profound
transformation during the experience and is
on her way to being a very complete artist.

A few of our students gave us feedback about their experience.

“Being in class was like a therapy session, but it was groundbreaking. We learned different approaches to creating characters that are extraordinary and more authentic. We had to leave everything we learned previously and come in with fresher ideas, something that would truly get us noticed by casting directors and not get lost in the sea of seasoned and talented Atlanta and LA artists. Also being able to have different opportunities to learn the ins and outs of the business allowed us to not only focus on our acting careers, but build us to be multifaceted creators, producers, and directors.” ~ Azhane’ Kennedy

“What really stuck out to me was the concept of creating a character outside the bounds of what was expected or normalized. We were really encouraged to do research into OUR African culture (physicality, language, cadences etc), as well as understanding and appreciating our own and everyone’s own personal uniqueness to develop characters that are more in tune with our native identity while still being a distinct individual.” ~ Jerome Stephen Manning

Our students worked behind-the-scenes on this project.

To help our students immediately apply what they have learned, we worked on several projects including 2 short films T!GHT (with Director Ty Williams) and LOREN'S CHIMERA (w/ Director Tequoia Urbina). We have another short film in pre-production titled ...AT THIS TIME (written by SA Brown of SAB Entertainment and myself).

We also completed a few productions with our partner the APEX Museum which included a Kwanzaa voice-over project with WRFG Radio and a story-telling series titled SANKOFA TALES, sponsored by Amazon

We partnered with WRFG 89.3 FM and
the APEX Museum on a KWANZAA voice-over series.

The flagship project that we will continue with each 90-day session is ANCESTRAL ACCENTS - which is a series of short video performances, where the actors honor and amplify little-known historical figures.

This is the first release from the series. This video features Jerome Stephen Manning performing excerpts of a speech by the legendary author, orator, and activist James Baldwin.
