The Film Body and Son Hits Milestone with a Series of New Festival Screenings

The short film, Inspired by the Theme of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome Has Been Accepted in several Festivals for 2020.


Body and Son, a short film written and directed by Atlanta-based filmmaker Chris Anthony Hamilton, has been accepted into the Hayti Heritage Film Festival in Durham, North Carolina (taking place February 13-15, 2020) and at the Las Cruces International Film Festival which takes place in Las Cruces, New Mexico on March 4-8. 2020.

The story centers around DeShawn, a 9-year-old boy who lives with his single mother. He comes across the dead body of a man he believes to be his absentee father. He confides in it about being bullied at school until his real father unexpectedly returns causing DeShawn to react in the only way he knows how. The film stars De’Jon WattsTeea Loreal, and Keith Douglas who all give powerful, emotionally impactful, layered performances.

Hamilton offered additional context about the film. "This short film is an exploration of the effects of black fathers missing from African-American households in our urban neighborhoods. It also delves into the issue of over-policing and its impact on the psyches of black, urban youth."

This is a series of screen captures of the film, which was shot by veteran director of Photography Alfeo Dixon. 
The film was previously screened at several festivals in 2019 including the BronzeLens Film Festival (Atlanta, GA), the Rome International Film Festival (Rome, GA), the Soul West Fest (Phoenix, AZ), and the Savona International Film Festival (Savona, Italy). 

2020 film festival screenings include Macon Film Festival (Macon, GA); New York True Venture Film Festival (New York City, NY); Atlanta Underground Film Festival (Atlanta, GA); San Francisco Black Film Festival, and International Houston Black Film Festival (Houston, TX) and Barbados Visual Media Festival (St. James Barbados). 

The film has received several awards including Best Narrative Short at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival and Best Cinematography at the New York True Venture Film Festival.

The 20-minute short film was produced by Chris Anthony HamiltonJason Louder, and Anthony R Page through the Sour Milk film-making collaborative.
