A new slate of films from Fiji is now streaming globally, spotlighting Pacific storytelling, emerging filmmakers, and the growing creative momentum of the region

Los Angeles, CA / Atlanta, GA / Suva, Fiji — SignifyTV, in partnership with the Alma Film Festival and the Fiji Film Collective, has officially launched a curated Fijian film showcase now streaming on the SignifyTV platform.

The initiative marks the first major Pacific-focused activation within the organization’s broader Global South cinema partnership—bringing together a collection of films that reflect the beauty, complexity, humor, spirituality, resilience, and evolving cultural identity of Fiji through the voices of its own storytellers.

Curated in collaboration with Tumeli Tuqota, President of the Fiji Film Collective, the slate represents a growing movement in Pacific cinema that is increasingly finding resonance with international audiences.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Tumeli Tuqota for his leadership in curating this collection,” said Anthony R. Page, Founder and Director of the Alma Film Festival. “What he’s helping to build is bigger than a collection of films. This is about organizing visibility for Pacific storytellers, creating pathways for collaboration, and making sure these voices are part of the larger global cinematic conversation.”

Set in an alternate reality Fiji where tradition and culture were never eroded by colonialism, the film tells the story of a new Drua — a traditional double-hull canoe — that demands a steep toll for the final stage of its launch. Accepted to screen at film festivals around the world, Soli Bula is a Fijian story told by Fijians, with cultural accuracy and authenticity at its core.

Daunitukutuku
A visually striking historical drama set in 1800s Fiji, Daunitukutuku follows a young Fijian woman who must battle man and nature to deliver a vital message capable of saving her village from invading forces.

You: The Choice of My Parents
Inspired by the poetry of Konai Helu Thaman, the film traces the emotional journey of a Tongan woman navigating an arranged marriage through symbolic chapters represented by traditional ngatu cloth, exploring identity, womanhood, duty, and loss.

Soli Bula
Set in an alternate reality where Fijian traditions were never disrupted by colonialism, this indigenous animated short imagines the ceremonial launch of a new drua ship—and the profound sacrifice required to send it to sea.

Jone Wise
Part action-comedy and part social satire, Jone Wise follows a former fighter forced to return to his old ways after the theft of his prized flip-flops sends him spiraling into absurd and escalating conflict.

Radini
Set during a women’s conference, Radini centers on a pastor’s wife preparing to deliver a keynote address while quietly wrestling with tensions hidden beneath the polished surface of public grace and expectation.

Takoso
After a chaotic night out, two drifting young men find themselves pulled into escalating trouble after crossing paths with an unsuspecting stranger in this sharp, ironic portrait of youthful impulsiveness and street-level mischief.

Building a Global Pathway for Pacific Cinema

The Fiji showcase is part of a broader strategy by the Alma Film Festival to create sustained international visibility for filmmakers from historically underrepresented regions.

“This partnership is about continuity,” Page added. “Too many filmmakers from emerging regions have moments of visibility without long-term infrastructure behind them. We want these films to continue moving beyond the festival space—into conversations, classrooms, communities, and international audiences.”

Alahna Lark, Executive Director of SignifyTV, described the showcase as an important step toward building deeper cultural engagement through streaming.

“These films are deeply rooted in Pacific culture while still carrying universal emotional truths,” Lark said. “We’re excited to help connect these filmmakers with audiences around the world and continue building a platform where diverse stories are truly centered.”

A Growing Global South Cinema Initiative

The Fiji activation is the first in a series of curated regional showcases planned through the partnership. Future spotlights are expected to feature filmmakers and collectives from Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Southeast Asia.

Together, the organizations aim to create a long-term ecosystem built around cultural exchange, audience engagement, filmmaker support, and cross-border creative collaboration.
