Page states, "We are excited that the board at the Georgia Theatre Conference has chosen our city to host this year's series. In many ways it's a metaphor for the progress that we have seen over the last few years. There have been improvements in infrastructure; the depth of talent and resources has developed to a competitive point and support from the wider community has been steadily increasing. So the fact that the board has chosen our city appears to validate our progress as a community. All in all, at Blue Bistro Creative, we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the conference."

Blue Bistro Creative has a their next production: Urban Expressionism in on November 19th at the Jabez Hardin Sanford Performing Arts Center in Evans, GA. To find out click the link: Urban Expressionism

MORE ABOUT THE GEORGIA THEATRE CONFERENCE

Georgia Theatre Conference 52nd Annual Convention Coming to Augusta

Augusta University, Davidson Fine Arts School, and the arts community in Augusta will  join forces next month to host “Take the Stage,” the 52nd annual convention of the Georgia Theatre Conference.  The three-and-a-half day celebration will take place October 12–15.  The annual gathering is expected to bring over 1,200 participants to the community for the three day celebration of theatre in our state.

Initial planning for the convention started more than two years ago, culminating with site visits in January and August of this year by the GTC Board of Directors.  The three-and-a-half day event is jam-packed with workshops, seminars, sessions and festival performances celebrating theatre in our state.  Long-time Augusta resident Roy Lewis, known for both his commitment to educational theatre and for his many roles on local stages, is in charge of programming and local arrangements.

The Davidson Fine Arts School and Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre will provide the major programming facilities, with additional support from Le Chat Noir, the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, and a variety of downtown businesses.  The convention keynote speaker and the annual awards program will be held in the historic Imperial Theatre on Broad Street.  Programming includes professional auditions, college scholarship and transfer auditions, four performance festivals (two secondary school festivals, one middle school festival, and a community theatre festival), special in-school children’s theatre performances at local elementary schools, a new play reading, commercial and college/university exhibits, and a wide variety of programming for students and working theatre professionals at every level.

Augusta University, Jessye Norman, Le Chat Noir, and Davidson Fine Arts will host workshops and auditions for more than 250 college students who will be in attendance.  Most of these students will arrive on Thursday evening to prepare for the Southeastern Theatre Conference Screening Auditions. This process is adjudicated by casting directors from the professional theatre community.  Successful participants – usually between 50 and 75 of those who audition – will be invited to attend SETC’s spring casting auditions, to be held in Mobile, Alabama next March, where more than 700 actors, actresses and dancers vie for summer work in theaters all across the nation.

On Saturday, AU’s Maxwell Theatre will host GTC’s second annual Middle School One Act Play Festival, where eight middle schools, some from as far away as Valdosta, will compete.  The event will include workshops for grades 6–8 and an awards program at the end of the day.

A highlight of this year’s convention will be Matthew Morrison’s appearance as the keynote speaker.  Morrison is appearing at the convention through a partnership with the Symphony of Augusta, who are bringing him to town for a Thursday night concert at the Bell Auditorium. Registered GTC convention participants can purchase discounted tickets for the Thursday evening event.

Online registration for the convention remains open through October 1.  After that time, onsite registration will be available throughout the convention, beginning at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12.
