Matching Grant Announced for Alma Film Festival to Support Emerging Global South Filmmakers
The Alma Film Festival is pleased to announce a generous gift from an Atlanta-area private family charitable fund. The contribution, made through the Alma Global Community Development Corporation, will directly support the Dandelion Institute’s Film & Television Fellowship, which equips emerging filmmakers from the Global South with mentorship, training, and opportunities for global exposure.
Our inaugural group of fellows includes filmmakers from Honduras, South Africa, Jamaica, Lesotho, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands, working across narrative, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema. Highlights include Joe Ramos (Honduras), the first Black director in his country’s film industry; Athi Petela (South Africa), acclaimed for storytelling depth; Khotso Jaden Maphathe (Lesotho), a multidisciplinary artist; Tumeli Toqota (Fiji), creator of Fiji’s first animated film; Regina & Georgianna Lepping (Solomon Islands), pioneers building a national film economy; and Kurt & Noelle Wright (Jamaica), a duo reimagining Jamaican mythology.
In addition to their initial donation, the Atlanta-based fund has offered to match all new contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to $3,000. This matching grant provides a unique opportunity for the community to double the impact of their support and ensure that fellows from underrepresented regions have the resources they need to participate fully in the festival’s inaugural year. The deadline for this matching offer is September 15, 2025.
Our fundraising campaign is hosted on BetterWorld.org, a free online fundraising platform that allows nonprofits to raise money without platform fees.
It offers secure, easy-to-use tools for donations, auctions, ticketing, and more—ensuring most contributions go directly to our mission. You can search BetterWorld.org or visit the link below to support our campaign.

The Alma Film Festival will debut March 17–22, 2026, in Las Terrenas, SamanĂ¡ Province, Dominican Republic. Produced in collaboration with the Afro-Mosaic Cinema Circle and supported by Soule Reserve, a luxury real estate development in the SamanĂ¡ Province, Alma is designed to be more than a traditional film festival. At its core, the Alma Film Festival is a research-centered platform powered by cutting-edge technology, deep audience engagement, and inclusive luxury.
Programming will include international film showcases alongside The Afro-Mosaic Cinema Summit, a series of think tanks, town halls, and symposia shaped by the festival’s Global Audience Survey. Together, these initiatives position Alma as both a cultural meeting ground and a catalyst for shaping a more inclusive, human-centered cinematic future.
"In everything we do, we aim to spark conversations that cultivate meaningful connections and strengthen our sense of community. From this shared foundation, we hope to inspire greater collaboration, leading to cultural diplomacy and collective growth."
~ Anthony R. Page, MBA, Festival Director / Managing Producer – Alma Film Festival
