"Like so many others, we’re adding our voice and energy to support the needs of BIPOC filmmakers and the desires of BIPOC audiences—helping to increase capacity, amplify more underrepresented stories, and expand what’s possible within the global film landscape through deep partnerships and shared purpose. There’s a lot that needs to be done, and none of us can do this work alone.” ~ Anthony R Page, Festival Director, Alma Film Festival

The Alma Film Festival, an emerging global platform for cinema and culture rooted in the Global South, has officially launched its Global Audience Survey in partnership with the Afro-Mosaic Cinema Journal. This initiative is part of the festival’s commitment to building a more inclusive, human-centered cinematic future—by directly listening to the audiences who will help shape it.
Designed to engage audiences from across the globe, the survey explores cultural preferences, accessibility, and expectations around storytelling, representation, and the overall cinematic experience. Responses will directly inform the Afro-Mosaic Cinema Summit—a cultural intelligence engine that includes a series of think tanks, global town halls, and symposia held during the 2026 Alma Film Festival.
“We believe the future of film must be co-authored by the global audience,” said Page. “This survey is more than data—it’s a living conversation that will shape how stories are developed, shared, seen, and valued.”
This research effort is supported by the Afro-Mosaic Cinema Circle's global network of stakeholders—a growing collective of creatives, scholars, cultural leaders, agencies, and institutions across 46 cities in 31 countries.
Page reiterated, “We are inviting citizens around the world to lend their voices to this effort by taking the survey and sharing their perspectives. We want to hear from them—we’re listening, we’re learning, and we’re committed to continually aggregating the best ideas and insights to inform how we approach this work moving forward."
