Alma Film Festival Announces Dangerous Waters as 2026 Opening Night Selection
Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic — The Alma Film Festival is pleased to announce that Dangerous Waters (2023) has been selected as the festival’s Opening Night selection for its 2026 edition. The special screening will launch the week’s programming and will be followed by a reception welcoming filmmakers, industry leaders, partners, and guests from around the world.
Filmed in and around Las Terrenas and the Samaná region, Dangerous Waters reflects the Dominican Republic’s growing capacity to support sophisticated international productions. Its inclusion is both a celebration of the film itself and a recognition of the region’s expanding role within the global production landscape.
“We are genuinely excited to showcase Dangerous Waters as part of our opening night,” said Anthony R. Page, Founder and Festival Director of the Alma Film Festival. “We chose this film because it demonstrates the level of production that can happen in Las Terrenas and the Dominican Republic. It’s a strong, polished project that highlights the capability of local crews, locations, and infrastructure. Local producer Pedro Catrain Jr. did a phenomenal job anchoring the production on the ground, and that kind of collaboration is exactly what we want to continue encouraging.”
Its placement at the start of the festival signals Alma’s commitment to highlighting the Dominican Republic not only as a place of natural beauty, but as a serious and competitive environment for film and television production. The selection reflects a broader vision of connecting global cinema with local industry growth while celebrating the creative partnerships already taking shape in the region.
