Discovering Las Terrenas: Building Community Through Story, Culture, and Collaboration - A Cultural Travel Documentary Premiere in Partnership with iTravel for Culture
Las Terrenas, Samaná, Dominican Republic — The Alma Film Festival is proud to spotlight the premiere of Episode 1 of The Secret Is Samaná, the new cultural documentary travel series created by filmmaker Reggie Gibbs and iTravel for Culture. Titled “Discovering Las Terrenas | Where Culture Meets the Caribbean,” the first installment opens a cinematic journey into the heart of the Samaná Peninsula, revealing Las Terrenas through the voices, rhythms, and lived experiences that define the town beyond its tourist image.
This is not a resort guide.
It is cultural travel through everyday people, daily life, and the stories visitors often miss.
In this first episode, viewers are invited into a grounded, immersive exploration of Las Terrenas through a documentary lens inspired by the spirit of Anthony Bourdain–style storytelling. The focus is not on attractions, but on connection—on the people, the food, the energy, and the quiet moments that shape a community.
Throughout the episode, audiences will experience:
-
A cinematic first look at Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic
-
The culture, rhythm, and daily life of the Samaná Peninsula
-
Food, community, and local voices that bring the town to life
-
A documentary travel style rooted in curiosity and human connection
-
A deeper understanding of why Las Terrenas is one of the Caribbean’s most unique cultural destinations
Whether planning a trip, searching for things to do in Las Terrenas, or simply curious about Dominican culture beyond the beaches, Episode 1 offers a deeper perspective shaped by authenticity, presence, and place.
The release of this first chapter also reflects something larger than a single series. The Alma Film Festival’s collaboration with iTravel for Culture is part of a broader, intentional effort to build meaningful relationships with creatives, cultural leaders, and community stakeholders across more than 50 cities and 34 countries. Each partnership represents an opportunity to share stories, exchange perspectives, and deepen understanding through creative work rooted in place and people.
At the heart of this approach are the festival’s Six Pillars of Purpose:
Conversation | Connection | Community | Collaboration | Cultural Diplomacy | Collective Growth
Projects like The Secret Is Samaná begin with conversation. Through shared vision and creative alignment, they grow into connection. From there, community takes shape—strengthened by collaboration and sustained through cultural diplomacy. Over time, these efforts contribute to collective growth, not just for the festival but for the people and places whose stories are being shared.
By supporting this series and others like it, the Alma Film Festival continues to expand a global ecosystem built on trust, partnership, and mutual respect—creating pathways for deeper engagement between audiences and the communities they encounter.
Episode 1 marks the beginning of a six-part journey leading into the 2026 Alma Film Festival, offering audiences an early invitation to experience the Samaná Peninsula not as spectators, but as participants in an unfolding cultural narrative.
Special thanks to Reggie Gibbs and iTravel for Culture for their creative partnership and long-term commitment to documenting authentic stories from the Dominican Republic.
