The Blue Series Announces Directors and Casts for Upcoming Production

Short Play Series Showcases a Variety of Fresh Atlanta Talent

(ATLANTA) Independent film, TV & theater producer Anthony R. Page's flagship short play project THE BLUE SERIES has solidified its collection of directors and actors for the September production.

Designed to create opportunities for up-and-coming actors, writers, and directors, while providing a rich cultural experience for audiences, this 8th installment of 'The Blue Series', features 6 separate production teams.

"My parents taught us (my brother and sisters), that when you go, take someone with you. So I am holding to that. As I continue to reach for the next milestones in my life and career, I am compelled to cultivate opportunities for others." ~ Anthony R. Page

Realized through a partnership with the APEX Museum and Impact Atlanta International Magazine, the series is a collection of 6 short plays about one family across many generations. Starting in 1876 and culminating in 2096, this theatrical essay is an examination of how one Black family has experienced America.

The plays and their teams include:

A PROMISED LAND

It's 1876, and Papa Joe sits atop a wagon with his wife Marsha and his daughter Phoebe. With the hopes for a better future, the family takes an arduous journey from the Carolinas to Atlanta. Along the way, they meet with Madame Oluyemisi, a fortune teller, who forecasts an unexpected turn in the future of their family. They journey on into the unexpected.

PAPA JOE: “Seems like all our lives we’ve been dreaming of an America that fits us in it.”

SOIL

Shaped by tragedy, Phoebe and her daughter Cela have different ideas about what 1928 America ought to be, and who they can be in it.

CELA: “It's why you want to walk on soil somewhere somebody

don't hate you, hate us, just for breathing this dirty air.”

MY FATHER'S DREAM

Billie's father lost his restaurant to arson in a bout of Jim Crow violence. Defiant, and without much support from her mother or brother, Billie sets out to revive her father's dream. While digging through the ashes of what America is in 1967, she makes a series of life-altering discoveries.

CELA: “Just make do with what you got and set yourself up to live ‘long ‘side them

in a way that is good for them and that’s gon’ be good for everybody.”

THE NEXT STEPS

It's 1988 and having recently graduated from high school, Aaron is cautious and unclear about his place in the world. Yet discovering her own place, his mother helps him to define the moment.

AARON: “I hear what you’re saying but faith is not a plan.”

VIRGIL'S CAFE

It's 2022, and Virgil and Bre, two people who appear to be moving in opposite directions, find a destiny during a serendipitous meeting on a rainy night in Memphis, TN.

BRE: "I’m not ready, but I don’t think I have a choice.”

ADIRA DELA CROIX 6.0

Denton Dela Croix, a tribal leader in Atlanta in the year 2096, has become too dependent on technology,  which impacts his ability to be a voice for the people. At a critical crossroads, he makes a choice that could begin to redefine humanity.

DENTON: “Android & A.I. technology has done a lot to make

our world better, why shouldn't they have a say?”
