Centering 1526

Thursday is dedicated to Centering 1526, a day of scholarship and cultural intelligence shaped by the research and scholarly work of Dr. Samuel T. Livingston of the Morehouse College Africana Studies Department.

Livingston is developing a book project centered on 1526, featuring contributions from scholars and thought leaders across the United States.

The day begins with a keynote address from acclaimed author, educator, performer, and Gullah Geechee cultural interpreter Dr. Ron Daise.

Afternoon programming moves to Lacy Exhibition Hall for think tanks, panels, roundtables, and symposia.

      • Session I — 1:00–2:15 PM
      • Session II — 2:25–3:40 PM
      • Session III — 3:50–5:05 PM

Programming currently in development includes a Gullah Geechee Culture and Literature Roundtable, organized by Dr. Corrie Claiborne, and a Congo/Gullah land-use projects session organized by Patricia Ndombe, an Africology doctoral student at Temple University.
